Ohio Marriage Equality Rally & Mass Weddings

I had the privilege of attending what may be the largest “illegal” mass wedding in U.S. history on March 24, 2012. Following a powerful rally at the footsteps of Cleveland City Hall, over 200 couples were married at once time at the Galleria at Erieview.

Seeing this rally was really important to me. I can’t understand a group of people who would deny rights to people because of who they are in love with. Being there, amongst those who this affects the most, I got a glimpse of what it feels like to fight for civil rights. I would have thought we lived in an era where we understood the inherent flaws in “separate but equal”. It’s a lesson I learned in social studies in grade school and easily understood why it’s morally wrong.
